Trade School is an alternative, self-organized school that runs on barter. Teachers propose classes and ask for barter items from students. Students sign up for classes by agreeing to bring a barter item for the teacher.
Trade School is a collaborative learning initiative that also helps to strengthen social ties. Indeed, everyone can teach a class or access to one. The platform is connecting people online, barter items helping students to get to learn teachers before the actual meeting offline.
Trade School values hands-on knowledge, mutual respect, and the social nature of exchange. Teachers and students can meet at Trade School to exchange their goods and talents. Trade School enables direct knowledge transmission between strangers: we believe that everyone has something to offer !
Trade School keeps evolving. In 2012, the first Trade School based in New York built a better version of the barter-for-knowledge web platform so that they could share it with organizers elsewhere around the world. How to organize a Trade School is explained in an open document: everyone is then able to build its own Trade School anywhere.
Trade School is a global movement. 38 Trade School have already opened their doors from New York to London, New Delhi, Singapore, Manila, Athens, Mexico City or Paris. 8 will open soon...and counting!
We are a constantly expanding and learning group of curious, rigorous, and compassionate people all over the world. Trade School is developing itself through permanent experimentation realized by each of the local Trade School. Through a shared website Trade schools organizers help each others by sharing documents, advices and stories.
